How it works

Step 1Choose Your Angle

Decide what the footage is for — memories, coaching or content — and pick the camera position that serves it.

Step 2Mount It Safely

Use hard mounts plus a tether; most series require both, and a loose camera at speed is a projectile.

Step 3Capture the Session

Start recording before the out-lap, check framing after the first run, and back up the files before leaving the paddock.

Questions people ask

Where is the best place to mount an onboard camera?

The classic chase view — behind and above the driver, facing forward — shows steering, track and context at once. Add a rear or pedal cam later for analysis.

What settings suit racing footage?

Shoot at 60 frames per second or more for smooth panning, lock exposure so tunnels and shadows do not flare, and use a lens wide enough to keep the apex in frame.

Are drones allowed at race tracks?

Only with permission. Tracks control their own airspace policies on top of aviation rules, so always clear a flight with the venue and organisers first.
